August tornado.
We ignore warnings, step out
and see bats swooping.

Artists need their gear. Painters need to buy pricey canvas and oil paints. Photographers top of the line digital cameras and computers. And the haiku poet? Oh, how easy we have it: pens, pencils and a few good journals will do.
Getting set up with my writing gear at home was a snap. I have several thick journals and an endless supply of pens and pencils awaiting me by my favorite chair.
But I sometimes have difficulty with haiku on-the-go. Either I am lugging around my heavy, clunky journals or I’m searching for scraps of paper and a pen in order to write an impromptu haiku. And there’s something about rummaging through a purse that is a buzz kill for inspiration. So what’s a haiku poet to do?
For me, this petite notebook by Baekgaard is just right for haiku on the run. A small pad of paper with a leather cover and a right-sized pen, my Baekgaard Mini Notebook doesn’t weigh me down.
It smartly fits into my smallest purse and even my back pocket - but it is there for me when inspiration hits.
And when my tiny notepad becomes completely filled with my haiku and musings, I can also purchase refills making this journal ready for the long haul.
Also a plus are the punchy chic colors: bright orange, hot pink, baby blue and lime green. And check out Baekgaard’s newest safari collection with funky animal patterns. For a little poetic trendiness, of course.
