Finch with string in beak
Flits into tiny birdhouse
Enraging the jays

I love the word ” flit “

Kelly, I remember your haiku with the word “flit” and I remember thinking - what a great word! And how come I had never thought of using this word???
Eileen, are you a bird watcher? I really want to get Cuckoo’s Haiku, which Kelly reviewed, all because I’ve always wanted to be a bird watcher but um, haven’t gotten around to it yet. I’m hoping this will change since my new state bird is the Purple Finch…
I think I’m rambling… but I love this haiku because it brings me into the world of birds beyond their beauty. I love getting a glimpse of a Jay being annoyed…

Alison,
I’m only a backyard bird watcher. I love how the cardinals scold me when I forget to fill the bird feeder or to put fresh water in the birdbath. Then, after I do, they seem to have this series of calls that alert all the other birds to the availabiltiy of food and water. My finch haiku was inspired by an article called “Feeding a Full House” published on May 19, 2009, available online at http://www.startribune.com. Check it out! Definitely food for thought for bird-lovers.
Eileen
