Yes, this is the butter sculpture of Princess Kay of the Milky Way from this year's Minnesota State Fair. Elizabeth Olson was crowned Princess Kay on Aug. 26, 2009 and will serve as a goodwill ambassador for the dairy industry and Minnesota's dairy farmers.

I work with Midwest Dairy Association, the organization that sponsors the Princess Kay program. If you're interested in more information, please check out www.facebook.com/PrincessKayOfTheMilkyWay and www.midwestdairy.com.

This is indeed a picture from the Minnesota State Fair. This particular butter gal may or may not have yet been crowned Princess Kay of the Milky Way. I'm not sure when the title is announced....

I think, if I remember correctly, the Minnesota State Fair is the second largest in the county -- after Texas.

I always thought the beauty queen contestants made out of butter was a treat, but a whole cow? Now that's impressive!

Oh! You've reminded me! We have our own extra special festival coming up here in New Hampshire. I will be sure to haiku about it:)

i grew up in columbus ohio, home of one of the biggest state fairs in the u.s.
back then it wasn't unusual to roam the grounds in groups of kids- age 9-10-11
the "ohio dairy" exhibit building had an entire jersey butter cow.
we went there first, every time.[ they also gave out swiss cheese sandwiches.]
this haiku and photo brought back such happy kid-memories!
thanks, kelly.
