My headlights startle

a fox, the next night a deer.

I slow and wonder.

nice one; its good that you’re driving with caution and that they are startled but can runoff alive

This is mysterious since I am wondering too….. Are you thinking about the animals in terms of their life at night? Their vulnerability? Or are you connecting with the animals on some sort of visceral level?

I’ve been thinking about wild animals lately, too. I never published a haiku about this but on Thanksgiving Day there were 12 wild turkeys marching through our backyard! And then the deer… I think after feeling all the death in the autumn I am feeling surprised and happy to see so much life in the winter.
