And the worst part is that a few years back Hubby himself came up with a plan to always be the sock baller.

I usually fold laundry with the TV on and the TV always sucks Hubby in. So I'd be folding and he'd be sitting there right next to me, doing nothing but watching me fold and whatever was on TV. I eventually threw a huge mountain of socks in front of him and told him to get busy.

He decided that balling socks was easy to do and declared that he would be my sock baller as his contribution toward clean laundry. I even would save the sock pile for him if he wasn't around and he'd do it!

But this year, I don't know what's going on. He'd lost all interest in balling socks and I was sitting there doing it, and he was watching me, and I said, "isn't this your job?"

And he launched into this speech about how he's balled so many socks in the past two years that obviously this proves he's a very feminist husband, much more so than any of the other men he knows, and since he's proved this, he doesn't have to ball socks anymore!

Balling socks! What a great image! I think this is my favorite in our theme of "why don't our husbands do more houswork?" haiku.

And Johanna, I like your psychological explanation of this phenomenon!
