My son who is 11 now told me a little while ago, that he still sees Barra out of his peripheral vision, but when he turns she disappears. He's not the type to make things up, so I really do believe she's watching over us.

I've never seen her, but for a while after, every so often I could swear I heard the jangle of her pet tags. :)

And yes, they really do become part of the family, and you don't realize how much their energy and presence fills a home until they are gone.

Anyhow, I hope you guys are feeling a little better. (((hugs)))

Thank you, Gisele. I keep thinking I see Bella around the house, on the couch, on her little cushion. Animals really become a part of the family after so many years.

Oh, Alison, I'm so sorry..(((((hugs))))). We went through the same thing with our beloved dog Barra two years ago on leap year day. She was 13 and was the most loyal and loving dog. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. I still miss her so much, but I know she's watching over us, just like I know that your Bella will watch over you.

Hang in there....

Thank you, Johanna. She was my cat for 11 years and I learned so much from her all these years. We found each other at the Humane Society when she was still young and mysteriously missing a few teeth. She had an annoying meow... but the kindest cat ever, very maternal to my daughter and our other cats. We will miss her.

i missed this one, alison. i've been through this
painful choice more than once...
better to "love them to death", than
allow them to suffer.

beautiful, sad poem.

Thank you, Kelly. It was so unexpected. We learned from the vet that cats are incredibly stoic and good at hiding their symptoms. We will miss our Bella cat who was always sweet to Penny and an incredibly cozy with everyone!

Oh Alison! My heart feels for you! I'm so sorry to hear this. This is not a fun choice to make and a very painful process for you. Hopefully, though, both you and the cat will end up feeling peace in the long run.
