I’ve wanted to write a haiku that showed this moment for months and so I am happy that you have written this since I could never quite capture it. It’s incredible when autumn takes all the greenery away yet some trees still hold on. And of course it would be a stubborn gnarly oak! Nice descriptives!
That’s funny. I’ve been thinking about all these stubborn old oaks and their dead brown leaves for months, too. For a long while, I was trying to use the word “blanket” in the haiku about them. But I just couldn’t get anything that I liked. Finally, the other day, while out walking my dogs, this one just popped into my head!
