in a sought after
cluster home community -
icy ponds and polar bears
even the green grass aflame with golden sunshine is dulled by suburb’s sameness

Question -
How does this read…
icy ponds and bears
Not the same, no? I just realized my haiku today is 5 - 7 -7. The horror, I know. But a philosophical haiku question. What to do?

Ah, well. Happens to the best of us.
More than once, I have typed in a haiku, then got off, rethought it and realized I made a counting mistake.

This haiku guilt makes
for more angst and a question -
will I miscount more????

Can I be totally selfish for just a minute? I know this is such an un “good friend” thing to say, but ….
I’m so glad it was you and not me! I was absolutely sure that I was going to be the first one to mess up a count!
I am liking your haiku guilt, however. Again, what’s up with all your angst?

That’s okay, I was angsty yesterday but now I am feeling a lot of haiku acceptance.
Angsty? The economy, too much Barney, etc. But mostly “angst” just happens to be one of my favorite words, up there with “persnickety”.

Persnickety. Now that’s a good word!
I like the word “keen.”
I’m keen on chocolate.

Have you ever noticed that there are a lot of haiku with the words “ebb” and “chrysanthemum”? Those are really good words, too. I’m keen to write a chrysanthemum haiku, someday….
