visiting city friends often claim that
it’s so noisy here. it’s the cicadas that
get to them. in my opinion, car horns, trains,
overhead airplanes and sirens, all 24/7
are much noisier. those of us who live
with their rhythmic “whee-ur” dont even notice it.
I think I heard a wee-ur today! It’s quite different than the one I wrote my haiku about as a facebook comment to this post. I think it’s a scissor-grinder cicada… at least, the one I heard just now definitely was!

I’m glad you concur with my “wee-ur” sound. I struggled with how to translate cicada talk into English. : )
