What does peace look like?

I wonder as I drink wine

and eat apple pie.

sun and snow flicker

in my rearview mirror -

ahead blue sirens

the bathroom door locked

I soak in the tub thankful

for tranquility

peace as I walk through the door -

puppy’s at day school

stretched out on my bed

freshly showered and alone -

window fans rattle, rain falls

courtyard politics

birds exchange words with gray squirrels

ancient peace resumes
