we lie together

shaped like an “S” — cotton seed

drifts by our window

in the thick, prickly dunes –

Spanish Moss weeps

pop as a tornado hits —

beauty is short lived

.

..

.

we sit and wait

watching soap and snow melt

against the windshield

.

suddenly it’s dusk

and yet it took forever

to get to this car

.

driving we see things

that aren’t ourselves –

windows lit soft orange

.

trees hang with white

so comfortably as if

they were penciled in

.

Finally people

surround us and we eat

tasting everything

.

.

.

..

..

Outside the wind whirls.

Inside my daughter asleep

in her toddler bed.

.

When will the world be

good enough for our children?

The night crashes rain.

The morning is calm.

A young Oak still holds it’s leaves

strong against winter.
